Canon for Obama

Barrack Obama is the first American president who had his official portrait shot by a digital camera. Pete Souza, the newly-announced official White House photographer, shot the picture with a Canon EOS 5D MkII.

Do you mean this picture is the official portrait ?
I’m a bit disappointed. Mr Obama’s jacket is not really neat, his necktie has nasty wrinckles and the overall composition is strange, with one presidential shoulder cut off. It’s a pity it does not render the classy style of the man.

Yes. This is the official portrait, straight from the source.

This is definitely not a very impressive photo, as you said. I’m ok with the jacket and necktie comment, there is something funny in the attitude (the head nearly not aligned with the body), but I’m OK with the cut shoulder. This framing makes him a close to the viewer (many recent portrait photos are using this non-classical type of framing).

However, what I find more important is that this is nearly exactly the official portrait of all American senators and congress people. One differentiating element is the white background that is usually replaced by a library or a dark wall.
