Comapre this price to the nex Nikon D800. Both are at the same price, but the performance is not even comaprable. I would not even think of buying a Sigma if I did nto have a bunch of old Sigma lenses to keep.

The Nikon D7100 is still very much a rumor. So, there is no known & safe feature list. What I heard here is only a very limited bit of information centered around the use of the 24 Mp sensor originating at Sony.

However, as I always insist upon: Never base your purchasing decisions on rumors (even from the excellent YLovePhoto web site!) or even just announced products. The best camera you’ll get is the one you buy and use, not the one you dream about and wait for.

For now, the D7100 would probably look a lot like a copycat of the D7000 with a bigger sensor (possibly with minor improvements to video grabbing and to buffer size for continuous shooting).

Can anyone tell me what the possibilities of the nikon d7100 might be? I am looking into a d7000 at the moment but was wondering if I should wait for the release of the nikon d7100? If possible would you be able to tell me what the features of d7100 might contain?

It is true, Adobe did market Content Aware Fill/Scale as almost a fool proof tool to fix shots made without any effort, so that you can make magic in your photographs, again, without any effort. It turned out to be quite the opposite. It is still a very powerful tool, when used right. It can often do what no other tools can do in one shot, and a lot of the times, it needs no further touch-ups. This translates to less time you spend touching up photographs.

Translating that to what we see here, sure, you can try to automate the post processing. Sometimes it will be great, sometimes it will be unusable. But it will be a great tool to have in the bag to save you time.

Thank you for coming back with specific brand names.
I have inadvertantly checked the problems with an older linear polarizer on a digital camera. The auto-focus goes mad, presumably because the auto-focus light path goes through its own linear polarizers. Switching to manual focus works fine.

Within a brand, the cheapest is low quality and the most expensive is the high-quality. Unfortunately, this does not really make a good comparison from brand to brand.

Clearly, the best filters are done by reputable companies (There is a lot of research and development involved within the seemingly simple filters; Small companies or companies specializing in “me-too” products usually do not have the R&D power to create a high-quality product). For example, Sunpak, Jessops or Hama are more distributors than designers. Hoya, B&W build some incredibly good filters (and a few cheap ones too).

This is unsurprisingly an interesting post. The title raises a question: how can I tell an high-quality filter from a bad one ? The price could be an indication to eliminate obviously bad/cheap candidates, but that’s definitely not enough. Any advice ?

Seeing the negative comments about content aware I wanted to add my thoughts. Content aware does still work amazingly well and better than what we had before. It is too true that the demo for content aware was just the photoshop team showing off the best of it and not the middle ground as an unbiased demo needs to be, but it is still a tool that I use daily and do not want to be without. I certainly do not think it, as someone working professionally in photo manipulation, that it is a “massive fail”.

Important addition that DPReview just published: Many details about the OLED viewfinder from Sony for the SLT-A77 (or A65) and for the NEX-7.

This is a white OLED display (with a colored filter for each pixel). Easier to manufacture that a multi-color OLED.
A/D converters are integrated in the display (under the OLED pixels) for higher density and lower digital noise.
Designed and manufactured by Sony.

I bough this lens to replace the original lens on my Sony Alpha 100. That camera came with a lens only 55mm wide. This one lets in a lot more light, which is great for lower light situations. It also zooms over a much longer range and now I don;t need to lug around my telephoto zoom lens all the time anymore. Great lens for the price.

Essentially, such comments lead me to 2 reactions: a/ I intend not to remove the (unwelcome) complaint if it does not reach unmanageable levels. b/ Such comments happen and are a reason to question myself anyway.
